Essential Tips and Tricks for UX/UI Design

Imagine you are visiting any random website for the first time as a user and it’ll impress you within 5-10 seconds.

How? UX/UI of a website is the answer. When we talk about UX/UI design for a website, one of the most important things is to plan out your content that conveys your message to your intended users.

First, ask yourself a few questions that’ll help you to sketch out your website’s layout:

  • What is your business goal/ objective for making this site?
  • Who is your target audience?
  • What do your visitors want to do when they land on your site?
  • What message exactly needs to be conveyed to the users?
  • What are the priorities or issues of the user you’ve to consider?
  • Are you doing this for any clients? What is the client’s goal?
  • Which are the targeted devices (desktop/mobile/any other) on your website?
  • Which technical constraints (licensed software, browser version) do you need to use for working on the UX?

Once you nail your goals, it’s time to translate your ‘vision’ into an attractive and user-friendly website.

To do this, make sure as a beginner you consider the following tips and focus on:

  • Contrasting colors:

Using a contrasting color to highlight links or buttons, will be the best way to catch one’s attention. It’ll not only help you to grab the user’s attention, but also help them to identify links and buttons easily.

  • Maintain Consistency in design:

It may look pretty if your buttons are highlighted with different colors, but at the same point, it may confuse the user to identify where they can click to navigate. Make navigation easy by keeping the color of the buttons the same.

  • Use Google Fonts or Web Safe Font:

The use of Google Fonts is the best way to showcase the website with the same font across different browsers. You can also choose other web-safe fonts that suit your needs.

  • Select Color Palette:

Choose a particular color palette and stick to it. Adobe color is perfect for this purpose.

  • Typography:

It is the most powerful way of communication. Make sure your typography fits the content or message you want to convey. Use a simple font and decent color to display texts on your websites.

For example, using a font such as Times New Roman or Arial on a white or light background in a black color appears more readable as compared to decorative fonts with a colored background.

  • Use of white space:

Well-managed white space will not only help you to set up an organizational flow but also help your site to appear well organized. It makes your layout more attractive and also highlights your chosen content.

  • Website’s hierarchy:

Visual hierarchy is the best way to prioritize your web UI elements. You may use a star or hub-and-spoke hierarchical structure to balance the 3 important things – brand, product, and message on each page of your website.

  • Use optimized images:

Use images that are small in size, so that your site maintains the speed and loads very quickly.

  • Make your website responsive:

If a majority of your visitors use the mobile phone to approach the site, you’ve to make sure that your site is responsive and visible on each mobile device.

Your website is meant to showcase and sell your products to your customers. Is your existing website covers all the above tips? Do your visitors find it easy to navigate? Do they understand the exact meaning of the message you want to provide? If not, it’s time to create a new one.
